Maine's finest snowmobile trails!
The JoMary Riders Snowmobile Club maintains over 100 miles of wilderness snowmobile trails with our three commercial-grade diesel powered groomers. Our trail maintenance staff has been recognized by the Maine Snowmobile Association as being "Trail Groomers of the Year."
The Club is located on South Twin Lake, eight miles outside Millinocket, Maine, and at the edge of the KI/JoMary multiple use forest that spans the high country known as Maine's famous 100 Mile Wilderness. The region lies between Mount Katahdin to the north, Moosehead Lake to the west, Sebec Lake to the south and the Penobscot River to the east.
From the parking lot on South Twin Lake one can ride for hundreds of miles through spectacular forests and over mountains without ever passing through populated areas. Nearly all the region's snowmobile trails are on level, wide, gravel roadbeds used by Maine's logging industry. These landowners thankfully allow use of their unplowed roads during the winter months for both our groomed trails and hundreds of miles of "off-trail" riding.
Along the way there are dozens of scenic spots, moose watching opportunities, and off-trail challenges such as riding to the top of Ragged Mountain.

We love to snowmobile and are willing to work hard to provide the best riding opportunities possible. But that takes major support from our landowners, our Legislature, and our business community.
Our Club must be heard. The Maine Snowmobile Association (MSA) must be heard. And you must be heard. That's where you come in. Every snowmobiler must make an ongoing effort to be heard - Not just by supporting a club or the MSA. The most effective way to protect your interests is for you to show up at Legislative hearings and industry meetings, writing to your Legislators, and writing to your newspapers.

Thursday night 3/23/17 we groomed:

Snow rolling off the blade to smooth some drifts – March 22, 2017
Got Snow? Yes, just a little snow rolling off the blade going thru some drifts. What would an operator do with out a good blade? Blades are used to pull snow into the trail, flatten drifts that would turn into bumps and scrape off muguls. Then the drag activates the snow crystals, spreads it out and smooths it down smooth. Ideally, it then gets a couple hours to harden up before riders come along and loosen it up again.

We packed from about 14 inches to 16 inches of fresh snow on Wednesday night. Snow was soft powder.

On Thursday night, March 16, we groomed the following trails. Some trails were groomed twice:
ITS 109 to ITS 86, Black Pond, PP x-over, B-Pond, Greenleaf/Gaunlet Falls loop, ITS 111, Ragged Mountain, 109/111 x-over, Downtown connector,109S toward Medway
There was heavy sled traffic up until Midnight on the trails Thursday. As a result, some didn’t have a chance to harden up fully.
Conditions today, Friday, began as packed powder. Then the trails were hit with a ton of traffic which chewed things up.
We are unable to groom a third night in a row (Friday) as all operators were unavailable – not to mention that we are currently $17,000 over our grant funding budget. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our trail fund this year.

South Twin Lake got approximately 12 inches of fresh snow on Tuesday night. It became very heavy snow once the sun hit it today. We packed the following trails Wednesday night:

Last night we groomed:
Grooming will resume Friday night. Conditions are – plenty of snow, some ice from rain puddling, hard and flat with some lube. I would say Good conditions but use Caution!

It’s not part of our trail system, we just took a picture of it. We stop grooming on the south/west end of the suspension bridge.
This photo shows the Millinocket side (north/east) of the Downtown trail. It is not our trail so we do not groom it! This trail could easily be groomed every night.
We groom our end almost every night. Unfortunately, this trail has way too many corners with blind hills because when this mult-use trail was built it was intended primarily for ATV’s so there was not much thought put into it. Now we are forced to deal with it in winter!
Warm temps with RAIN last night, but looks like the trails survived. These pictures were taken this morning on a few local trails near South Twin Lake. We have decided to let the trails soak up the moisture and let the wind help dry them out before we groom them Monday night.
